Another reasonably big RTS game is making news for all the right reasons. It has been announced the sequel is going to be released on the PC in the beginning of March 2010 and 2 weeks later it will hit Xbox 360. It has been quoted that "Square Enix's expertise in character development and storytelling, combined with the real-time strategy experience of the creative talent at Gas Powered Games, promises to deliver a feature-rich product that we hope gamers from around the globe will enjoy."
With the $550 million launch, sales records broken left, right, centre and even forwards, it seems the CoD franchise needs help from new developers. Infinity Ward is concentrating on the Modern Warfare area, while Treyarch is doing the historical battles based on WWII which started off the entire series. The third studio has not been named at this time, but rumours are flying around on what they could be working on. Sounds like another branch under the CoD flag name, but maybe a more modern war sounds like a safe bet or maybe working on new or future consoles/technologies.
Do you think that the series is diversifying too much or do you think it will churn out more and better games?
Pandemic was a developer which was behind the Mercenaries series, Star Wars: Battlefront and also The Saboteur. It seems the doors are physically closing with most of the 200 people being made redundant or hopefully moving onto other projects within EA. The brand name shall like on however and so will those game IP’s.
Do you think that this is an unnecessary move? Are other developers going to feel similar issues?
The mildy controversial Left 4 Dead 2 full version has been released today. The exceedingly excellent Mug (Gamespace network Op) has been busy and we have over 100 servers for your "censored" enjoyment.
Two games down in the Dead Space franchise with the prequel doing poorly on Wii, there is hope at the end of the tunnel for the series. Someone with a keen eye on the job posting sites has found this: "Senior Online Level Designer for the Dead Space franchise on Xbox360 and PS3." The game has not even been formally announced yet, but the wheels are turning and are on the road to completing this game. Other job ads and hints have been dropped about the sequel, but nothing seems to be rock solid yet.
Will this be a good game to play when it is out? What would you like to see in it? Will multiplayer be good?
It seems that the Fallout MMO is confirmed, is being actively worked on and screenshots have been leaked by an unlikely source. You can see the images here. Basically there is a court case between Interplay, the old owner of the IP rights to Fallout and Bethesda Softworks who now owns it. Interplay is actually working Project V13 which is the Fallout MMO and they are the source of the leak. In the court case they were accused of being slow in developing the MMO, so they submitted the images as evidence as proof that the game is in full development
What do you think of the screenshots and will the game be any good?
For the Command and Conquer gaming franchise fans, there is some hot news for you. The guys behind this sequel are EA Los Angeles and they have just announced that the game is coming to PC on March 16 2010. Also if you preorder, you get early beta access, a copy of the orchestral soundtrack, a signed photo of Kane and an exclusive bonus prequel campaign mission were also unveiled.
Are you a Command and Conquer and will this game be any good?
Activision is churning out a lot of these hero based games with Guitar Hero, DJ Hero and now Band Hero. All are on sale now, but it seems this is not enough. Some keen observers have found that they now have registered Drum Hero as a trademark. The trademark filing specifically states that it will cover “Toys, handheld games with liquid crystal displays, musical toys; action figures and accessories therefore; arcade games; coin-operated videogames; electric action toys; handheld unit for playing electronic videogames; electronic toy drums." If they use the name or not in a game is up in the air, but the same thing happened with DJ Hero and that was released. It will be interesting to see how this pans out.
If a Drum Hero game was released, would you buy it and would it be any good?
In a move for competitive L4D action, a team of 4 say from one clan, can now take one someone organised similar for versus fun. It was announced in April and just finally made it now. It seems all hands are on deck for L4D and its sequel which is due out on the 17th and the demo is out now.
Is this a good feature? Would you be interested in a L4D league if it was possible to use this new feature for it?
